Five couples moved into their new homes at Cwm Calon, Ystrad Mynach on the same day thanks to Help to Buy - Wales.

They are among the first eight Help to Buy - Wales sales for Redrow Homes, all on the same estate.

As well as completing on the same day, the couples are now all neighbours having moved into homes side by side to each other.

Originally from Fairwater, Abigail Whiteman and Toby Nisbett, both 23, are among the couples who have moved into their new home at Cwm Calon. Help to Buy - Wales has enabled them to make their first step on to the property ladder sooner than expected.

Toby said:

"We started looking for a home last September but we were struggling to find something we liked within our price range.

"When we visited Cwm Calon for the first time, we immediately fell in love, and luckily Help to Buy - Wales has enabled us to afford to buy here.

"As we were the guinea pigs of the scheme, we expected the process to take months but our Help to Buy - Wales application was approved within a week of submitting it.

"We can’t believe how easy and simple it has been considering how complicated house buying can be for some first time buyers.  The fact we own our own home is still sinking in!"

As well as helping people own their own homes, Help to Buy - Wales will also give a boost to the construction industry and the economy.

Redrow Homes South Wales is one of 63 builders who have signed up to the Help to Buy - Wales scheme, offering new-build homes across Wales.

The company has seen an extremely positive response to Help to Buy - Wales since its launch at the start of January.

As well as giving much needed support to many first time buyers, the scheme is helping existing homeowners to trade up to larger properties.

It is hoped that Help to Buy – Wales will support the sale of around 5,000 new homes over the next two years, over 200 of which are forecast to be in the Caerphilly area.
